On The Catwalk

John knows his limitations perfectly well . “I’m not aiming to be an art house actor. I know my limitations. And I’ve been working my way around them. To me, doing a No Smoking is as valid as doing a Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal,” said John.

He has feet firmly planted in the present and is looking at the future in a pragmatic manner. He says, “My next two films again take my career on an unpredictable course. Karan Johar’s film with Abhishek Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra and me is a light romantic film. Sriram Raghavan’s film with Aishwarya Rai is also a romantic film, though more intense. I’ve made my own place. But, I still need to do a lot more.”

Kabul Guy

After a success in the form of DHAN DHANA DHAN GOAL, John Abraham has entered 2008 with much needed boost to his career. With SALAAM-E-ISHQ and NO SMOKING being no-shows, the success of DHAN DHANA DHAN GOAL has come as a shot in the arm.

"It was great to see the film holding on so well for weeks in succession. I am quite happy in spite of some critics still choosing to run down the film and me. Thankfully, audience felt otherwise", says John who would now be beginning work on the Sriram Raghavan's up coming film titled 'Happy Birthday' that pairs him opposite Aishwarya Rai.

Axe Effect

Everyone knows him as a first-rate model, an evolving actor and a youth icon. But there is more to John Abraham. He is deeply involved in social work and wants more youngsters to join his Habitat for Humanity brigade. "I keep a break between my films and during those breaks I work for social causes I address. I love animals and I work for PETA. I have my own brigade called John' brigade for Habitat For Humanity," John told IANS. "This year, we have built 5,000 houses in impoverished villages all over India. Next year, we plan to build 8,000 houses. Habitat for Humanity is a Jimmy Carter foundation project.

Sky Is Mine

"I don't have a problem being labeled a sex symbol though I personally don't feel very sexy about myself. There's no harm in my creating a niche for myself in a certain bracket."

"My greatest strength as an actor is that I follow my director's brief completely. The film is always the director's visual baby."

Talk about being a mature actor and a reasonable person. These you can clearly see from John's quotes that he gave to different sources at different times. The model turned actor has no illusions to where he belongs and what are his priorities in the film world.

Authentic Abraham

It appears the long time heart throbs have decided to tie the knot. Yes, the news is that John Abraham and Bipasha Basu have decided to get engaged sometime in Jan 2008. The holy alliance is blessed by their respective parents. The decision for this matrimony was taken after John and Bipasha's parents had a maeeting. “Both John and Bipasha are very close to their families. Recently, their parents met and discussed about solemnizing their relationship by exchanging rings,” says a source. “Bipasha’s family is keen on an early January engagement as both of they have busy work schedule after that,”

Ready For Date

In 2005, John ignored angry threats and agreed to play the lead role in the controversial film Water, which deals with the sad fate of Indian widows in traditional Indian society. The film was written and directed by independent film-maker Deepa Mehta. It had a rocky history; a first attempt to film it foundered, when sets in Varanasi were burned by an angry crowd. John signed for the director's second attempt to make the film, this time in Sri Lanka.

Sepia Tinted BodHot

"I have no inhibitions when it comes to showing off my physique, but appearing nude on screen is out of the question. I don't need to resort to it and definitely not at this stage of my career." John has followed his statement. Although he has been presented with many erotic emotional role, he has always drawn a clear line between eroticism and obscenity. I would say it his up bringing as a catholic that has helped him stay the path of correctness in his career.

Look Alike

By the time the Y2K fever got over people and they were ready to welcome the new millennium, John Abraham had established himself as a successful model and was eyeing an entry into the movies. His girlfriend Bipasha Basu by then had launched herself into Film Industry. Abraham made his Bollywood debut with the controversial movie Jism at the age of thirty in 2003. The director was not very confident of his vocal prowess so John's character was presented on screen by using dubbing. It was not his voice in the movie. His debut was very unlike the main stream Hindi movie heroes who debut with action thrillers or tear jerker love stories. His was a debut that was in sync with times by playing an erotic emotional role. The film did not do very well at the box office, but his work was noticed widely. His first blockbuster smash hit came in the year 2004 when he took the antihero role 'Kabir' in Dhoom (2004). The movie was a hit and almost started the biker culture in India. He has appeared in a number of successful movies since then

Biker Boy

"I was slightly disheartened when three of my films didn't work at the box-office.But the silver lining is that people did appreciate my work in those films. Had my performance gone unnoticed, I would've been in big trouble then". This is John Abraham's summing up of hiccups he faced during his initial career. Rightly said, his films did not do very well at the box office but he was noticed by right kind of people who matter in the making of films. Sure enough, in the time to come, he was to show his acting skills in many hit movies and working in different roles.

Beach Boy

John Abraham's modeling career really took a a leap when in 1999, he won the Gladrags Manhunt Contest and went to Singapore for Manhunt International, where he won second place. This was a great opportunity for John Abraham and he grabbed it with both hands. His exposure due to the Gladrags win got him a number of commercial advertisements. To further hone his acting skills, John Abraham joined Kishore Namit Kapoor acting lab and successfully completed a course on acting while juggling modeling assignments. His latest Ad about Biker Glasses is an eye catcher where John is the eye candy.

Tattoed John

Bipasha Basu's heart throb John Abraham first went to the Bombay Scottish School for initial schooling. He finished college from the Jai Hind College, where Priyanka Chopra also has done her college education. Right from his school days he was a keen sportsman and in college he was the captain of the football team. John Abraham made a humble beginning to his modeling career with a media firm called Time & Space Media Entertainment Promotions Ltd., which soon closed down due to financial problems. Later he worked for Enterprises-Nexus as a media planner.

Goal Achieved

Abraham's parents eloped as his mother being Iranian was not acceptable to their parents. John's parents were estranged from their respective parents until the birth of their first child, John. He was originally named Farhan, but his father gave him the name John, and he has used that name ever since. Being a Catholic his father added the name 'Abraham' to his son John as a mark of respect to the first patriarch and progenitor of the Hebrew people in the Bible.

The Hot Bod

John Abraham's whose Parsi name is Farhan was born and baptised as John Abraham. He has one younger brother, Alan. The model turned actor Abraham's father is a Syro Malabar Catholic architect, from Alwaye, Kerala in India. His mother, Phiroza Irani, is part of Bombay's Parsi community.
